Lebenslauf:
*1981

Amsterdam-based, Bogotá - born composer Natalia Dominguez Rangel’s music and sound work offers a varied mix of contemporary classical composition alongside electronics, synthesis, field recordings, and performance. The versatility of her composition is exhibited by recent works across formats ranging from ensemble pieces, to sound installations. For “Palace Ruin” (2016), a sound installation made specifically for artist James Beckett’s sculptural installation of the same name, Dominguez Rangel constructs a sonic architecture that is just as vivid as it is hazy. Crepitating sounds capture the smoulder of an enkindled Paleis voor Volksvlijt, on which the installation is based, while snippets of musical grandeur and nobility rise through sonic cracks, leaving behind only the auditory remnants of her (de)composition. “10’01” (2016), a multitrack audio installation for 8 speakers and 2 subwoofers, commissioned by Dag in de Branding (NL) morphs between high tones, abrasive noise and thunderous sub-bass. The composer’s soundscore for “Ruins In Reverse” (2014), an artwork by Persijn Broersen & Margit Lukács acquired by Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, takes the essence of odyssey as it turns and overturns; an ascending motif echoes the narratives of inverted futures, built on the fading trails of sounds that gradually pass and subside to new audible pathways.
