Nadia Pérez was born in Merida, Yucatán. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication, specialized in Media from the Anahuac Mayab University. She has over ten years of experience working in cultural communication and design, with special emphasis in the development of comprehensive educational strategies to engage audiences in topics related to art, culture, environment and social issues, helping them to understand and implement a new approach to these topics. Her diverse interests have led her to participate in several projects where she has honed different skills like video production, photography, writing, designing and curating. In recent years she has focused her attention on developing a suitable methodology and communication strategies to help independent projects have a better approach to their audiences. From September 2010 until March 2015 she served as the Head of the Media Department of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Yucatan. She is currently the Managing Director of Lux Perpetua Art Centre, a private cultural project that comprehends an art gallery, workshop and artist residency.

ARTISTIC ACTIVITIES:
2013-2014 Turning the table: Understanding cultural movements. Participant
Kotah. Installation made of individual artworks. In my piece I use QR Codes embroidered in traditional Mayan garment, as an ornament you use in the Mayan “Day of the dead” altar. The QR code was scannable; it had a link to a website, where you could read and heard a poem about Mayan land, and the loss of its biodiversity. The website included a soundscape of different parts of the region, as well as some pictures.
The whole piece was an altar for the “dead of the biodiversity” concentrating in the disappearance of the bees and their fundamental part in the ecosystem
This Project was made in conjunction with Museums Connect, a program of the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the American Alliance of Museums.

2010 Cheech Kiin, Artistic project made in collaboration with Mexican artist Karin Mijangos.
The project combines soundscape, poetry, photography and design as tools for environmental education and understand of the five ecosystems of the Yucatan Peninsula.
The result allows the transfer of the each ecosystem to a showroom through sound, images, braille, video and poetry. In this project I worked on the concept and design of a series of posters that explore images with sounds. The posters were developed from the translation of certain phrases or syllabic sounds in braille. The images were made with braille symbols, to be printed with braille system.
