Lebenslauf:
Robin Waart uses repetition and collecting as a framework for projects with books, movie stills, photography, polaroids, and book pages. His works raise questions about (dis)continuity, what it means to look at, or do, the same thing over and over. For Thinking in Pictures Waart collected subtitled film-stills that state ‘What do you think?’, ‘What are you thinking?’ and variations thereof. In freezing the screen this series analyzes the psychology of the surface as a medium between thinking and viewing. Dedication(s), similarly, is based on a collection of torn out book pages with anonymous dedications such as ‘To C.L.S.’, ‘For HCC’, ‘In Memory of J.V.C.’. Focusing on the relationship between receiver and author, the project addresses the reasons why, and for whom we make what we make.
