At the suggestion of KKA, artists with whom Ioana Nemeş worked a number of times are presenting works in the context of an “invisible transfer of signals for ioana nemeş”. The exhibition shows how much energy Ioana Nemeş put into cross-border work with other artists and how greatly she enriched these collaborations with her creativity. The exhibition “invisible transfer of signals for ioana nemeş” is the last part of an international project series curated by Dragoş Olea, in which the artists have dealt with the issue of overcoming national imputations.
Ioana Nemeş was one of the most interesting representatives of the Romanian art scene. In 2003 she spent three months in Austria as a scholarship recipient in the context of the KKA Artists in Residence Programme. Afterwards she achieved great national and international renown and her works were presented in the context of numerous exhibitions and projects, including the Biennales of Istanbul (2009), Prague (2007) and Bucharest (2006). In 2007 she was awarded the Future of Europe Art Prize by the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst in Leipzig.
Ioana Nemeş died of a heart attack during the night of 23 April 2011 in New York City, shortly after the opening of her first solo exhibition at Art In General.
