Introduction of New Teaching and Learning Strategies

Facilitating the acquisition of new key qualifications for the rapidly changing labour market is becoming a fundamental concern of education policy. As a result, the development and implementation of new forms of teaching and learning has become an added priority in the context of education reforms in all sectors. This, in turn, involves the provision of appropriate training and further training courses for teachers and the establishment of relevant structures.

In the context of European integration, increasing social, cultural and religious heterogeneity and increasing globalisation, the challenges to individuals as members of civil society are constantly changing. If these challenges are to be met, the citizens of Europe will require enhanced competences and skills and broader attitudes that will enable them to participate actively in civil society, deal constructively with diversity and establish and maintain social cohesion and sustainable development.

For this reason, KulturKontakt Austria offers support in such areas as the individualisation of teaching and learning processes and the introduction of open forms of teaching and learning or project-based teaching. The use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in teaching, new approaches to teaching foreign languages, and social learning are all being supported. Particular areas of emphasis in these contexts are the important related fields of democracy education, intercultural learning and – increasingly – education for sustainable development.

Project example: "New Forms of Teaching/Learning in the Primary School Sector"(continuing education series) in Kosovo

The Kosovar Ministry of Education aims to develop and implement an inclusive education system. In order to create the preconditions for inclusive education, suitably trained teaching personnel are required. In cooperation with the Kosovar Ministry of Education, a training course devoted to “new forms of teaching/learning”, with a special focus on the individualisation of teaching, is being developed, trainers are being trained, and four schools are being established as resource centres.
