Highly Personal and Individual

Marie-Therese Rudolph

No matter whether the person in question is an artist or a teacher, a staff member of a cultural institution or an event organiser: the consultancy team of KKA’s Arts + Cultural Education department offers everyone custom-tailored information for conducting workshops and participative projects with schoolgoers.

“How do I find a school that is interested in a composition workshop?” asks a young composition student, who considers it important to counter the prevailing image of the unworldly artist working alone in an ivory tower. “Do you know a Turkish author who would write a play together with the children in their native language class?” asks a primary school teacher. “Could you recommend a musician who can develop an artistic project with pubescent youngsters without having a nervous breakdown?” – An answer to this despairing teacher’s call for help is easy to find, thanks to the artist database and the fact that the department’s advisors, each of whom specialises in a specific artistic field, have ample networks at their fingertips. In personal talks, either on the phone or in the KKA library, in visits to schools, at conferences or at teacher education institutions, and nowadays also more frequently via e-mail, KKA staff members gather information about the respective situations, make enquiries and help each individual decide what is the best course to follow. No two conversations are the same, because each constellation is different and requires a specific solution. In addition to accepting submissions for dialogue events, which can be made all year round, KKA offers a number of programmes for schools, cultural institutions, cultural educators and artists. The most frequently asked questions probably have to do with the availability of funding. These can only be answered on the basis of a realistic estimate of the costs, on the one hand, and of the financial resources of the schools, on the other hand. This part of a discussion can be disillusioning for some, but in other cases it has a motivating effect. As already mentioned, the consultations are highly personal and individual!
